Ajnad al-Sham Islamic Union

The Ajnad al-Sham Islamic Union was an alliance of Syrian Islamist rebel groups formed on 2 December 2013. Allied to the Army of Mujahideen, Sham Legion, and Islamic Front, it was enemies with the Syrian Arab Army and Islamic State, and it was based out of the Darayya District of Rif Dimashq Governorate, fighting in the Ghouta suburbs against Syria. The group supported peace talks with the Syrian Arab Republic in early 2016, but its Islamist views set it apart from the secular mainstream of the Syrian Opposition. In 2018, its presence in the Damascus area was eradicated by the Syrian Arab Army, and its remaining fighters were evacuated to Idlib Governorate, after which the alliance dissolved.
