Ajay Ghale (1988-) was King of Kyrat from 2014, succeeding Pagan Min. Raised in the United States from the agre of three, he returned to Kyrat in 2014 to spread his mother's ashes in her homeland, only for the dictator Pagan Min and the Golden Path rebels to both vie for his support in the Second Kyrati Civil War due to his parents' strong political legacies. Ajay ultimately joined forces with the Golden Path and overthrew Pagan Min, who abdicated the throne in his favor. Ajay assumed control over the country after killing the zealot Sabal, and he and the Golden Path went on to battle the remnants of Min's Royal Kyrati Army.

Biography[]

Ajay Ghale was born in Kyrat in 1988, the son of Golden Path leader Mohan Ghale and his wife Ishwari. When Ajay was three, his mother murdered his father for killing Ajay's half-sister Lakshmana Ghale and then fled to the United States with her infant son. Ajay had a troubled childhood in America, falling in with the wrong crowd and being implicated in a convenience store robbery that left a store clerk dead. Ghale turned himself in and bartered a deal with the police, identifying the triggerman. As Ajay began to turn his life around, his mother fell ill with cancer and entrusted Ajay with taking her ashes to Lakshmana in Kyrat; Ajay, having never heard of his half-sister, believed Lakshmana to be a place.

On Ishwari's death in 2014, Ajay traveled to Kyrat against the advice of the United States Department of State, which had no diplomatic relations with the kingdom. Ajay's journey into the country via bus was interrupted when Golden Path guerrillas emerged from the bus and fired on Kyrati border guards, resulting in a shootout that nearly resulted in Ajay's death. Ajay and his guide Darpan were apprehended by Pagan Min, who helicoptered to the border to greet Ajay in person, and who stabbed one of the border guards to death for shooting at the bus rather than simply stopping it. Min flew Ajay and Darpan to Paul De Pleur's compound for a feast, introducing himself to Ajay as King of Kyrat and showing off currency featuring his likeness. When Darpan texted the Golden Path for help, Pagan Min stabbed him with chopsticks and had De Pleur torture him to death in another room as his own conversation with Ajay was interrupted by a phone call from Yuma Lau. Rather than enjoying the crab Rangoon prepared for him by Min's captive celebrity chef, Ajay fled the palace with the help of Sabal and the Golden Path and was taken to the rebel stronghold of Banapur. There, he met the Golden Path's co-leader Amita and the girl Bhadra, said to be the living reincarnation of the goddess Kyra. Ghale reluctantly became involved with the Golden Path's fight against Pagan Min and the Royal Kyrati Army, eventually becoming a leading guerrilla fighter and taking control of government outposts. He also helped determine the balance of power between Amita and Sabal, as many in the Golden Path viewed Ajay as royalty due to his parents' role in their struggle.

Ajay was drugged by two British stoners while visiting his father's homestead in southern Kyrat and was handed over to Southern Kyrat's governor Noore Najjar, who forced him to fight in the Shanath Arena. However, Noore eventually revealed that Min was holding her family hostage, and Ajay agreed to help her bring down Paul De Pleur, the real power in southern Kyrat. Ajay captured De Pleur in a raid on his "City of Pain", but he discovered that Noore's family had already been killed, causing Noore to commit suicide. Ajay then collaborated with CIA agent Willis Huntley against Min's adoptive sister Yuma Lau, killing her lieutenants. After Ajay wiped out the CIA's targets in Kyrat, Huntley betrayed him to Lau, leaving him to die in the Himalayas before Ajay was captured by the Royal Guard. Yuma had Ajay imprisoned in the torturous Durgesh Prison, but he escaped with the help of a grappling hook. He rejoined the Golden Path and killed Yuma at the KEO Svargiya Mine, after which he liberated the Jalendu Temple from Min's Royal Guard and crowned Bhadra as the Tarun Matara. Sabal then had Ajay defend Utkarsh against the Royal Army and then ordered him to kill Amita, who had become a threat due to her insistence on transforming Kyrat into a narco-state at the cost of its traditions and the Golden Path's morality. Ajay refused to kill her, and he instead rejoined the Golden Path for a final assault on Min's royal palace. There, Min revealed the truth about Lakshmana and his own relationship with Ishwari, and Ajay and Min spread Ishwari's ashes at Lakshmana's shrine. Min also abdicated his throne in favor of Ajay, whom he had come to see as a son and heir of sorts. Having developed a new understanding of Min, Ajay decided to spare him, allowing him to leave for China in a helicopter.

Ajay then returned home, only to find that Sabal had transformed Kyrat into a Buddhist fundamentalist state. Sabal had Amita's supporters murdered at the Jalendu Temple as Bhadra looked on, arguing that the sins of Kyrat had to be washed in blood. Disgusted with Sabal's misrule, Ajay killed him and his immediate supporters, and he went on to assume the throne of Kyrat for himself.
