Biography[]
Ajax the Lesser was the son of King Oileus of Locris and Eriopis, and he was born at Narycus in Locris. He led 40 Locrian ships as part of the Achaean coalition during the Trojan War, becoming known as one of the swiftest Greek warriors. On Troy's fall in 1183 BC, Ajax rushed into the Temple of Athena and raped the Trojan priestess Cassandra, causing Odysseus to call for Ajax's death by stoning. Ajax swore by Athena that he was innocent, causing a disgusted Athena to have Zeus strike his ship with a thunderbolt as Ajax began his homeward journey, causing him to fall overboard to his death in Poseidon's seas.
