Ainu

Ainu people are an indigenous people of northern Japan located on Hokkaido, the Kurile Islands, and Sakhalin. There are 200,000 Ainu living in Japan as well as Russia's Kamchatka Province today. In 1861, Ainu people made up 2.3% of the population of the Tokugawa Shogunate, and they still make up a majority of the indigenous inhabitants of the northern islands of Japan and the nearby Russian islands.
