Ahmed al-Haznawi (11 October 1980-11 September 2001) was a Saudi Arabian al-Qaeda member who was one of the 9/11 hijackers.
Biography[]
Ahmed al-Haznawi was born on 11 October 1980 in Hazna, al-Bahah Province, Saudi Arabia, the son of an imam. He was from the same tribe as Saeed al-Ghamdi, Hamza al-Ghamdi, and Ahmed al-Ghamdi, and they were the most religiously-observant 9/11 hijackers, with al-Haznawi memorizing the Quran. Haznawi was forbidden by his father to fight in the Second Chechen War, so he instead headed to an al-Qaeda training camp in Afghanistan. Haznawi was injured by cutaneous anthrax while preparing for the 2001 anthrax attacks against the United States, but this diagnosis was ignored and he was given proper medical assistance for "bumping into a suitcase". On 11 September 2001, he helped in the hijacking of United Airlines Flight 93. He was killed by the passengers using a fire extinguisher during their uprising, but Ziad Jarrah crashed the plane in a Pennsylvania field to take them down with him.
