Ahmed al-Ghamdi (2 July 1979-11 September 2001) was a member of al-Qaeda from Saudi Arabia who was one of the 19 9/11 hijackers.
Biography[]
Ahmed al-Ghamdi was born on 2 July 1979 in al-Bahah Province, Saudi Arabia. He became an imam, and he went on to join al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. He met Saeed al-Ghamdi, Hamza al-Ghamdi, and Ahmed al-Haznawi, in 1999, and they were very observant of Islam. In 2000 he quit school to fight against the Russian Army in the Second Chechen War, and on 2 May 2001 he arrived in the United States with Majed Moqed in preparation for the ultimate martyrdom operation, 9/11. Along with Hani Hanjour, Nawaf al-Hazmi, and Moqed, he moved into an apartment in Paterson, New Jersey. On 11 September 2001 he headed to the Logan International Airport and boarded United Airlines Flight 175, pushing the passengers to the back of the plane alongside Hamza al-Ghamdi as the plane was hijacked. The plane was crashed into the World Trade Center later that day, killing everyone on board.
