Ahmad Shah of Pahang (24 October 1930-22 May 2019) was the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia from 26 April 1979 to 25 April 1984, succeeding Yahya Petra of Kelantan and preceding Iskandar of Johor. He was also Sultan of Pahang from 8 May 1974 to 15 January 2019, succeeding Abu Bakar of Pahang and preceding Abdullah of Pahang.
Biography[]
Ahmad Shah was born in Pekan, Malaya in 1930, the son of Sultan Abu Bakar of Pahang. He succeeded hi sfather as Sultan of Pahang in 1974, and he was elected Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) in 1979; he was friendly with Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad. However, he was a controversial and headstrong personality who was known to fire ministers over minor differences. He abdicated as Sultan in January 2019 due to his failing health, and he died in Kuala Lumpur in 2019 at the age of 88.
