Ahmad Jan

Ahmad Jan (died 21 November 2013) was the chief spiritual adviser of the Haqqani Network of the Taliban. He served as Governor of Zabul Province from 2000 to 2001 under Taliban Afghanistan, as well as Federal Minister for Water and Power from 1996 to 2000.

Biography[]

Ahmad Jan was a native of Ghazni Province in Afghanistan, and served as the Minister for Water and Power from 1996 to 2000, when he became the Governor of Zabul Province. He was overthrown a year later by the United States and Northern Alliance, and became a rebel commander in the Haqqani Network, serving as its spiritual advisor. He masterminded many suicide attacks, and was a new target of the CIA.

Death[]

In November 2013 Jan was killed in the Bannu District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in a US drone attack, weakening the Haqqani organization.
