Biography[]

Ahmad Awad bin Mubarak was born in 1968 in Aden, Yemen and gained a PhD in business administration from Baghdad University in Iraq. He then became a professor at Sana'a University in his native Yemen and he became chief-of-staff to President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi. On 7 October 2014 he was elected as the new Prime Minister of Yemen as a part of a peace deal with the Houthis and succeeded Mohammed Basindawa, but the Houthis refused to accept him and demanded a greater share of power and economical reform. Two days after he was made Prime Minister-designate, a suicide blast in Yemen's Tahrir Square killed 43 people, and Mubarak turned down the post. Khaled Bahah became the new Prime Minister after his resignation, only to be forced to resign on 23 January 2015. On 3 August 2015, Mubarak became ambassador to the United States.
