Ahdut HaAvoda was a socialist political party in Israel that was active from 1919 to 1968. The party's first leader was David Ben-Gurion, and the party had a Hebrew-only policy. In 1920, Ahdut HaAvoda established Haganah and Histadrut, and the party merged into Mapai in 1930. On 20 May 1944, a group that split from Mapai formed a reincarnated "Ahdut HaAvoda", and the group was pro-Soviet and opposed to any territorial compromise. This group merged into Mapam in 1948, and the third and final incarnation of Ahdut HaAvoda was formed in 1954 as a Mapam splintergroup. In 1955, the party won ten Knesset seats, making it the fifth-largest party in the Knesset. In 1965, the party allied with Mapai to form the Alignment coalition, and Ahdut HaAvoda, Mapai, and Rafi merged to form the Israeli Labor Party in 1968.
