Agustin Huici (died July 1816) was a Spanish Army colonel who fought in the Bolivian War of Independence.
Biography[]
Agustin Huici was given command of the veteran Fixed Regiment of Buenos Aires in July 1811, and he assumed command of the Third Corps of the Upper Peru Army after the Cochabamba Revolution of 1811. Huici's advance into Argentina forced the Argentine Patriots to evacuate Jujuy, and Huici ultimately occupied Salta. He was defeated by Manuel Belgrano at the Battle of Las Piedras, and he was captured by Argentine Patriots while riding towards the town of Trancas by himself. He was regarded as ferocious and cruel by both patriots and peers, and he fled prison in April 1816. He died upon reaching San Jose del Morro shortly after, and it was theorized that he had been murdered and robbed by Lieutenant José Gregorio Calderón.
