Aguila Saleh Issa (born 1944) was the President of Libya from 2014, succeeding Abu Bakr Baira

Biography[]

Aguila Saleh Issa was born in 1944 in Al Qubbah, Libya to a Sunni Muslim family. He became a jurist and represented Al Qubbah in the Libyan Parliament, and he was independent from political parties. On 5 August 2014 he was elected as President of the Council of Deputies of Libya and Abdullah al-Thani was his Prime Minister. During his tenure, he had to worry about Khalifa Hefter's Libyan rebels in addition to Islamist militias.
