Agra Fort
Agra is a city in the state of Uttar Pradesh in northern India. Famed for its famous fort, "Agra Fort", it was first recorded in the Mahabharata in the 4th millennium BC, and from 1556 to 1658 it was the capital of the Mughal Empire. Today, it has a population of 1,746,647 people.

Agra in the Imperial Age
Agra was built in the third millennium BC, and it was first mentioned as a city in the epic poem Mahabharata. Agra developed into a city under the Indians during the Middle Ages, and it was later captured by the White Huns, who used it as one of their bases until its conquest by Kanpur. However, it was the Muslim Mughal Empire of northern India that transformed Agra into what it is today. They built Agra Fort as the defining feature of the city, and the city served as the capital of the Mughals from 1556 to 1658 before the capital was moved to nearby Delhi. Agra has a population of 1,746,647 people today, with 90% being Hindu, 7.1% Muslim, 1.4% Jain, .2% Sikh, .2% Buddhist, and 1.1% Christian, Zoroastrian, and other faiths.
