
Agha Afzal Khan is a Pakistani-American Republican Party politician who ran for the US House of Representatives from the 8th congressional district of New Jersey in 2016.
Biography[]
Agha Afzal Khan was born in Pakistan, and he graduated from Government College Sahiwal in 1966 before working as a planning officer for Federal Government of Pakistan in Punjab from 1968 to 1976. He later immigrated to the United States, working in real estate development and management from 1982 onwards. He was honorary Deputy Mayor of Jersey City, New Jersey from 2002 to 2004, as a Commissioner for the Jersey City Development Corporation from 2001 to 2007, and as President of the American Muslim Foundation New Jersey from 2006 onwards.
In 2016, Khan ran for the US House of Representatives from New Jersey's 8th congressional district, promising to strengthen the Pakistani case in Congress. He also supported energy independence, controlling government spending, free market health care, a strong military, school choice, and encouraging small businesses with free market policies. He lost the election with 18.5% of the vote to Democratic Party incumbent Albio Sires' 77%.
