Affan ibn Umayyah (522-597) was the father of Uthman and Abu-Sufyan ibn Affan.
Biography[]
Affan was from the wealthy Banu Umayya clan of the Quraysh, and he became a merchant. He died at the age of 75 while travelling abroad in 597, leaving his vast inheritance to his son Uthman. He was also the father of Abu-Sufyan ibn Affan, the chief of the Quraysh who was Muhammad's initial nemesis.
