Aethelmaer the Smythe

Aethelmaer the Smythe (843-December 875) was an Anglo-Saxon man who lived in the countryside west of York, Yorkshire during the late 9th century AD. In 875, motivated by a desire to avenge his brother's death at the hands of the Danes, Aehtelmaer attempted to ambush Eivor Wolf-Kissed on the road into York, hiding in a bush and attempting to ambush him. Eivor dismounted and proceeded to behead Aethelmaer after a short fight, and he discovered the revenge letter on his body.
