Aethelmaer of Kent

Aethelmaer of Kent (1030-1066) was the Anglo-Saxon Ealdorman of Kent in 1066, succeeding Harold. He succeeded Harold after his death at the hands of the Normans at the Siege of Maldon, and he attempted to raise a fyrd in Tilbury, Essex to reclaim the region from the Normans. He was killed in a skirmish with William FitzOsbern's Norman army near Tilbury before he could amass an army.
