Aert Jansse van Nes

Aert Jansse van Nes (1626-13 September 1693) was a Dutch admiral who served in Anglo-Dutch Wars.

Biography[]

Aert Jansse van Nes born in Rotterdam, United Provinces in 1626, the brother of Jan Jansse van Nes. He served in the Dutch navy during the Anglo-Dutch Wars, becoming a captain in 1652 and fighting at the Battle of Portland, the Battle of the Gabbard, and the Battle of Scheveningen. Van Nes also fought in the Second Northern War and the Dutch-Portuguese War before rising to an admiral's rank; he fought in the Four Days' Battle and the St. James' Day Battle during the Second Anglo-Dutch War and the Battle of Schooneveld and the Battle of Solebay during the Third Anglo-Dutch War. He also served in, and survived, the Franco-Dutch War; he was one of the few Dutch naval heroes to survive all of the wars of the late 17th century, and he died in his bed in 1693.
