The Aeneads were the Trojan friends, family, and companions of Aeneas, with whom they fled Troy after the Trojan War in 1183 BC. The Aeneads took part in six years of wandering across the eastern Mediterranean, and, in 1176 BC, they settled in Latium. Aeneas founded the city of Lavinium, named for his wife Lavinia, the daughter of Latinus, King of the Latins. The Aeneads allied with the Latins, and their combined descendants would become the Romans, who founded Rome in 753 BC.
