Aelwold was the Bishop of Exeter during the late 9th century. He was involved with the collection of taxes from the farmsteads of Liscumb, whose lord bequeathed a tenth of its income to the Catholic Church, and he threatened Mildrith of Liscumb with the confiscation of her property if her husband Uhtred of Bebbanburg did not pay the Church's due. Uhtred bribed him into absolving his debt and the money owed to Oswald of Liscumb's family by giving him a silver Irish cross taken from Cornwall, but King Alfred the Great forced Uhtred to resume his debt due to his violation of the peace with Cornwall.
