Aelfwald of Essex (1026-1066) was an Anglo-Saxon nobleman who served as the Ealdorman of Essex at the time of the Norman conquest of England. In 1066, he led his army in an invasion of Kent, planning to drive the Normans back across the English Channel. He occupied Stutfall (Lympne) before William the Conqueror himself met Aelfwald in battle, and, in the ensuing Battle of Stutfall, Aelfwald was killed and his army destroyed.
