Ealdwald of East Anglia

Aelfwald of East Anglia (675-749) was King of East Anglia from 713 to 749, succeeding Ealdwulf of East Anglia and preceding Beonna of East Anglia.

Biography[]

Aelfwald was born in 675, the son of King Ealdwulf of East Anglia. His father's 49-year reign and Aelfwald's 36-year reign from 713 to 749 saw peaceful stability in East Anglia, as East Anglian ecclesiastical affairs had settled and trade with the Rhineland via Ipswich led to prosperity in the kingdom. Aelfwald died in 749.
