Aelfnoth Clark

Aelfnoth Clark (died 875) was a Mercian courtier in the service of King Ceolwulf II of Mercia during the late 9th century AD. In 875, he was sent to represent King Ceolwulf at the Lincolnshire shiremoot held in Lincoln; he was to bring the name of the selected ealdorman candidate back to the king for approval. However, he was stabbed dead by one of Bishop Herefrith of Lincoln's assassins during the massacre which followed Hunwald's election as designated ealdorman.
