The Adriatic Sea is a body of water between Italy and the Balkans, extending from the Gulf of Venice to the Strait of Otranto in the south, pouring out into the Ionian Sea and, subsequently, into the Mediterranean Sea. Italy, Croatia, Albania, Montenegro, Slovenia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina are located along the Adriatic shore, which has a surface area of 53,500 square miles.
