Adrian Hepburn

Adrian Hepburn (1866-1930) was a British Army major who served in the 2nd Battalion, Devonshire Regiment on the Western Front of World War I. On 7 April 1917, he sympathized with Lance Corporal Will Schofield when he arrived at Colonel Benedict Mackenzie's tent with orders from General John Erinmore to call off an attack which would fall into the Germans' trap, and he thanked Schofield for carrying out his mission, even after Mackenzie rudely dismissed Schofield for depriving him of a battle.
