DAS

The Administrative Department of Security (DAS) was the security service of Colombia from 18 July 1960 to 31 October 2011, serving as the country's counterpart to the FBI. DAS provided judiciary police services and served as a counter-intelligence agency, and the DAS was formed on the orders of General Gustavo Rojas Pinilla, who seized power in a military coup. In 1989, Pablo Escobar's Medellin Cartel twice attempted to assassiante DAS director Miguel Maza Marques, including the DAS Building bombing of 6 December 1989. DAS would later be accused of interactions with both left-wing and right-wing paramilitaries and drug traffickers, and it was disbanded in 2011 and replaced with a national intelligence agency.
