Adley Hogan Gladden (28 September 1810 – 12 April 1862) was a Lieutenant-General of the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War and the commander of the 1st Louisiana Brigade.

Biography[]

Adley Hogan Gladden was born in the Fairfield district of South Carolina in 1810, and he worked as a cotton broker before serving in the US Army during the war against the Seminoles in Florida and in the Mexican-American War; he was wounded in the assault on Belen Gate in Mexico City, Mexico. On 25 January 1861, he became a militia colonel in the Confederate States Army at the start of the American Civil War, and he commanded a Louisiana brigade, briefly leading the Army of Pensacola from 22 December 1861 to 27 January 1862. On 6 April 1862, he was mortally wounded by a shell fragment at the Battle of Shiloh, dying six days later.
