Adelmar Díaz Escalante

Adelmar Díaz Escalante (born 1778) was a Chilean merchant from Santiago who lived during the Chilean War of Independence.

Biography[]

Adelmar Díaz Escalante was born in Santiago, Chile in 1778, the brother of Lucas Díaz Escalante. They came from a merchant family, and Adelmar himself followed in his family's footsteps and became a middle-class merchant in the capital city. In 1814, his brother was kidnapped by bandits, so Adelmar hired Javier Pando to recruit five men and rescue his brother. Upon Pando's completion of the task, he returned to Diaz at the tavern. He then recommended that he visit General Bernardo O'Higgins and inquire about serving in the Chilean Army.
