Adamawa State is a state in northeastern Nigeria, with its capital at Yola. The state was mountainous, and it was crossed by the Benue, Gongola, and Yedsarem river valleys. The region was also agricultural, with cash crops including corn, yams, yuca, guinea corn, millet, and rice. From 2009 onwards, the state was impacted by the Islamist insurgency in the state, as it became home to 35,000 refugees displaced from Mubi, Madagali, Askira Uba, Bama, and Gwoza by Boko Haram. In January 2015, measles spread among the refugees at their camps. In 2006, Adamawa State had a population of 3,178,950 people.
