Adalbert Baert

Adalbert Baert (1737-) was the Stadtholder of the United Provinces from 1792 to. He was a bon vivant and a man who kept the status quo to prevent clamor for reform.

Biography[]

Baert was born in Namur in the Netherlands to a Dutch Protestant family, and he was of noble birth. Baert was elected as Stadtholder of the United Provinces in 1792, succeeding Willem V of Orange as the leader of the Dutch, and he fought the First French Republic in the French Revolutionary Wars from 1793 onwards.
