The Action off El Toro was a naval battle fought off the southern coast of Cuba in 1722 between the pirate captain Edward Kenway and his ship Jackdaw and a Spanish naval convoy. Kenway intercepted the convoy, which had left Cienfuegos and was bound for Santiago de Cuba, and attacked the frigate Guadalupe (carrying 3,000 reales) and its schooner escorts Tigre, Paloma Blanca, and Zabra Augusta. The Jackdaw first immobilized the Guadalupe with cannon fire before Kenway and his crew boarded and seized the ship, looting its treasure. He did the same to the schooner escorts, and he scuttled the first two ships before sparing the captured crew of the Zabra Augusta to reduce his wanted level. After sailing away from this engagement, Kenway took notice of the frigate Triunfo, which was transporting 100 metal and 30 rum, and the Jackdaw sailed towards the ship to pick a fight. In the ensuing boarding action, Kenway and his crew killed most of the Spanish sailors before Kenway climbed the mast and cut down the Spanish flag, forcing the crew to surrender. Having plundered several Spanish ships, Kenway decided to retire to Havana for a short time.
