Achille Pierre Deffontaines

Achille Pierre Deffontaines (16 February 1858-26 August 1914) was a French Army general who was killed in action during World War I.

Biography[]

Achille Pierre Deffontaines was born in Bouvines, Nord department, France in 1858, and he graduated from Saint-Cyr in 1880 and served in the French Army in Africa before reaching the rank of brigadier-general in 1913. He commanded the French 24th Infantry Division at the start of World War I, and he was mortally wounded in the head on 22 August 1914 (during the German invasion of Belgium) and died four days later.
