Achaean League

The Achaean League was a confederation of Greek city-states in the northern and central Peloponnese that existed from the 5th to 4th centuries BC and from 280 to 146 BC, with Aigion serving as its capital. The first Achaean League was centered around Patras, but it disappeared after its capital of Helike was destroyed by an earthquake and tsunami in 373 BC. The regional league was founded in 280 BC by several small city-states, and it allied itself with the Roman Republic against the Antigonid Empire of Macedon. The league played a major role in the expansion of Rome into Greece, and the League itself was conquered and dissolved by the Romans in 146 BC.
