Popular Action (AP) is a big tent political party in Peru that was founded on 7 July 1956 by Fernando Belaunde Terry. The party was founded as a reformist alternative to the status quo conservative forces and the populist APRA party. The party appealed primarily to the middle class, but also to professionals and white-collar workers. The AP attained the presidency in 1963 and 1980, but it found itself on the center-right as Peru's politics shifted leftward in the 1980s. The party soon became a minor party, as its popularity waned after Belaunde retired.
