Acastus

Acastus (died 1246 BC) was a prince of Iolcos, the son of Pelias and Polymele, and the half-brother of Jason. He grew estranged from his father after witnessing his willingness to execute his wife to force Jason to embark on the search for the Golden Fleece, and Acastus stowed away aboard the Argo due to his desire to restore Jason to the throne. Acastus was wounded by a Colchian archer during the Argonauts' escape with the Golden Fleece, but Medea magically healed his wound. On the Argonauts' return to Iolcus, an ambitious Acastus got Mopsus drunk, took the fleece for himself, and confronted his father in Iolcos, declaring himself king. However, as Medea had not yet blessed the fleece, it had no power over men's minds, and, while Pelias feigned abdication in his son's favor, he stabbed him in the side while embracing him, killing him.
