
Abu Zamil al-Suri (15 October 1968-14 August 2014), born Abdul Qayyoom Doud, was a member of the Al-Nusra Front.
Biography[]
Abdul Qayyoom Doud was born in Kanaker, Rif Damashq Governorate, Syria to a Sunni Muslim family. In 1986, he enlisted in the Syrian Arab Army but was rejected due to his Islamist views. Doud decided to join the Mujahideen in Afghanistan after his rejection, and he fought against the Soviet Army in the Soviet-Afghan War. Doud took on the kunya "Abu Zamil al-Suri" and fought for jihad with Osama Bin Laden. He was chosen by al-Qaeda to train some new recruits at an Afghan training camp, and he was responsible for training up to 50 al-Qaeda operatives. Doud later joined the Al-Nusra Front during the Syrian Civil War, and he fought against the Syrian government. He was killed in Aleppo on 14 August 2014.
