
Abu Sabaya (18 July 1962-21 June 2002), born Aldam Tilao, was a Filipino terrorist who was the leader of Abu Sayyaf until his death in 2002.
Biography[]
Aldam Tilao was born to a Filipino Muslim family in Mindanao, Philippines. He was trained as a policeman and later studied engineering in Saudi Arabia, where he lived for a time. Sabaya later became a member of the Abu Sayyaf terrorist group in his country and was responsible for the kidnapping of two American missionaries and the killing of an American civilian. He joined the Moro National Liberation Front and was trained in using explosives, and he was eventually hunted down by the Filipino Army.
In 2002, he was met by a Special Warfare Group of the Filipino Navy and was shot and killed at sea while trying to escape. Four other terrorists were captured.
