Abu Nazir

Abu Nazir (1955-2012) was an al-Qaeda commander.

Biography[]

Abu Nazir was born in 1955 in Palestine, but in 1957 his family moved to Kuwait and his father became an imam. From 1963 to 1970 he was educated and he took part in a political protest, burning a Kuwaiti flag. In 1980, he joined Abdullah Azzam's Mujahideen during the Soviet-Afghan War and became a leader of al-Qaeda, coordinating attacks on United States and Coalition forces in Iraq since 2003. On 19 May, he captured US soldier Nicholas Brody and turned him against the USA as a sleeper agent, but Nazir was targeted and killed in 2012.
