Abu Muhammad al-Shimali (20 November 1979 – 8 September 2017), born Tirad al-Jarba, was a key leader of the Islamic State's immigration and logistics committee. He and Gulmurod Khalimov were killed in a Russian airstrike on Deir ez-Zor in 2017.
Biography[]
Tirad al-Jarba was born on 20 November 1979 in Iraq, but he moved to Saudi Arabia, holding Saudi citizenship. He joined al-Qaeda in Iraq during the Iraq War, and he would later become a leader of the Islamic State in Syria. al-Shimali facilitated the travel of foreign fighters from Turkey to Jarabulus in northern Syria, and he ran training camps for them as well. Tirab al-Jarba and Gulmurod Khamilov were both killed in a Russian airstrike on Deir ez-Zor on 8 September 2017.
