Abu Arkaan al-Mawsuli

Abu Arkaan al-Mawsuli (16 May 1982 – 2 November 2016) was an Islamic State commander during the Iraqi Civil War.

Biography[]

Huraira Abad was born on 16 May 1982 in Mosul, Ba'athist Iraq to a Sunni Muslim family. Abad joined the Iraqi insurgents during the Iraq War, taking part in the war against the United States and the Iraqi government from 2003 to 2011. Using the nom de guerre of "Abu Arkaan al-Mawsuli", he would go on to become an operational commander of the Islamic State during the Iraqi Civil War, taking part in the fighting against the government in northern Iraq. On 2 November 2016, Abad was killed during the fighting with the Golden Division of the Iraqi Army in Mosul.
