Abu Ahmad al-Alwani

Abu Ahmad al-Alwani, born Waleed Jassem al-Alwani, was a member of the military shura of the Islamic State.

Biography[]

Waleed Jassem al-Alwani was formerly a commander of Ba'athist Iraq, but in 2003 the United States invasion of Iraq led to the loss of his job. He joined the Iraqi insurgency and was once held at Camp Bucca, but he was evenutally released and he rejoined the insurgency. Rising to be a prominent leader of the Islamic State and a member of its military council, he was targeted in a USAF drone strike in late 2014 in Iraq and was said to have been killed. However, he was confirmed to still be alive in 2015.
