Absalom Paine (2 June 1757-14 May 1819) was a member of the New York State Assembly from 1789 to 1801.
Biography[]
Absalom Paine was born in 1757 in Poughkeepsie, New York, and Paine volunteered in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. Paine fought at the Battle of Long Island in 1776 and the 1777 Battles of Saratoga, and Paine would return to his career as a clockmaker after the war. In 1789, Paine was elected to the New York State Assembly at the age of 32, and he enterd politics with the Federalist Party. Paine was in the assembly until 1801, and he died in 1819.
