Abraham Kurkindolle Allison (10 December 1814 – 8 July 1893) was the Democratic Governor of Florida from 1 April to 19 May 1865, succeeding John Milton and preceding William Marvin.
Biography[]
Abraham Kurkindolle Allison was born in Jones County, Georgia in 1814, and he worked as a merchant in Columbus and in Alabama before settling in Apalachicola, Florida. He served as the city's first mayor, as a county judge, as a state legislator, as a militia captain during the Second Seminole War, as a lawyer and inn owner in Quincy, as a state legislator, and as Governor during the last month of the American Civil War after Governor John Milton's suicide. He was captured on 19 June 1865, and he later returned to his legal practice and aided in the suppression of Republican voters in Gadsden County, for which he was fined. He died in 1893.
