
Abolghasem Khazali (21 March 1925-16 September 2015) was the Chairman of the Guardian Council of Iran from 29 August 1983 to 29 August 1988, succeeding Yousef Sanei and preceding Ahmad Jannati.
Biography[]
Abolghasem Khazali was born on 21 March 1925 in Borujerd, Iran. He became a hardline fundamentalist Shia cleric, and he had close ties with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Before the Iranian Revolution of 1979, he was one of the most strong challengers of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and was imprisoned several times. After the revolution, Khazali became a member of the Assembly of Experts from Khorasan as well as Chairman of the Guardian Council, and he became the oldest member of the Assembly of Experts. He died of natural causes at the age of 90 in 2015.
