Abner Monroe Perrin (2 February 1827 – 12 May 1864) was a Brigadier-General of the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War.
Biography[]
Abner Monroe Perrin was born in Edgefield, South Carolina in 1827, and he served as a US Army lieutenant during the Mexican-American War before becoming a lawyer back at home. When the American Civil War broke out in 1861, he became a captain in the Confederate States Army, and he served in Maxcy Gregg's divison during all of its major battles. He took over Samuel McGowan's brigade after he was wounded at Chancellorsville in 1863, and he was involved in the assault on Seminary Ridge during the Battle of Gettysburg. In May 1864, he declared that he would leave the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House a live Major-General or a dead Brigadier-General, and he was pierced by seven bullets while leading his brigade to reinforce Edward Johnson's division.
