Abernethy is a village in Perthshire, Scotland. Its Brythonic name Apurnethige means "mouth of the Nethy", and it became a major political and religious center of the kingdom of the Picts. Its Christian monastery was the site of several Viking attacks during the Norse invasions of Scotland, and, in 1072, it was the site of a peace treaty between William the Conqueror and Malcolm III of Scotland. The village had 1,350 residents in 2006, and its only stores were a general store, two pubs, and a tea room.
