Abel Carter Wilder

Abel Carter Wilder (18 March 1828-22 December 1875) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-KS) from 4 March 1863 to 3 March 1865, succeeding Martin F. Conway and preceding Sidney Clarke.

Biography[]

Abel Carter Wilder was born in Mendon, Massachusetts in 1828, and he moved to Rochester, New York and continued mercantile pursuits. He moved to Leavenworth, Kansas in 1857, and he served as chairman of the 1860 Republican National Convention. Wilder went on to serve as a captain in the Kansas Brigade during the American Civil War, and he then served in the US House of Representatives from 1863 to 1865. He returned to Rochester in 1865 and served as Mayor from 1872 to 1873, and he died in 1875.
