Abed Hammoud

Abed Hammoud (1966-) was a Lebanese-American Democratic candidate for city council in Dearborn, Michigan. Born in Lebanon to a Muslim family, he emigrated to the United States and worked as an engineer before becoming assistant Wayne County prosecutor. He ran for city council in 2001, but he lost his party primary due to the election being held on 11 September 2001, the same day as the 9/11 attacks, which triggered a wave of Islamophobia in the United States. 20 years later, his son Mustapha Hammoud was elected to city council.
