Abe Isoo (4 February 1865-10 February 1949) was the founder of the social democratic Shakai Taishuto political party of Japan.
Biography[]
Abe Isoo was born on 4 February 1865 in Fukuoka, Japan, and he studied overseas in Berlin, German Empire and in Hartford, Connecticut, forming an interest in socialism while studying in the United States. In 1899, he became a Christian preacher upon his return to Japan, and he became a teacher at Waseda University in 1901. Abe founded the Shakai Taishuto social democratic party in 1932 after preaching Christian socialism throughout Japan, but he decided to retire eight years later as Japan became a militaristic country. He died in 1949.
