Abdullah Tariki (19 March 1919-7 September 1997) was Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources from December 1960 to 9 March 1962, preceding Ahmed Zaki Yamani.
Biography[]
Abdullah Tariki was born on 19 March 1919 in Zulfi, Saudi Arabia, the son of a camel owner who organized caravans in Nejd to Kuwait. Tariki was educated in Kuwait and Egypt, and he obtained a B.A. in geology and chemistry from Cairo University in 1944. In May 1953, he was hired at the Ministry of Finance office in Dammam, and in December 1960 he was the first man appointed as Minister of Oil by King Ibn Saud. Because of his involvement with Talal bin Abdulaziz al-Saud's Free Princes Movement against Faisal of Saudi Arabia, he was removed from office in 1962 and replaced by Ahmed Zaki Yamani. He died in 1997 in Cairo, Egypt.
